Empowering Treatment Acceptance

The last time I went to the dentist, I came home with a 4-page document print-out that outlined treatments I supposedly needed. It was a long document with complex dental jargon and an intimidating table filled with prices and insurance information. Even the highlighter marks littered throughout the pages from the front-desk manager couldn’t help make this headache (toothache?) more digestible.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the desk, many dental offices struggle with low treatment acceptance rates. On average, only 46% of treatments proposed get accepted officially in the US. However, some high performing practices achieve 80% treatment acceptance rate.

So my team and I wondered:

How can we help dental practices increase treatment acceptance?

We set out to explore solutions that will:

  1. Empower dental staff to effectively communicate complex dental treatments to patients (with the help of AI imaging!), and

  2. Help patients make confident decisions for their own health, while maneuvering stressful topics like cost, insurance, and anxiety.
